Box Score UPLAND, Ind. -- No. 6-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball held rival Taylor (Ind.) to just 14 first half points en route to a 65-47 win on Wednesday in Upland, Indiana.
Taylor (15-12, 8-7 CL) managed just 35.8-percent shooting as they hit on 19-of-53 shots. TU committed 20 turnovers as Indiana Wesleyan had 11 steals.
Indiana Wesleyan (23-4, 14-1 CL) dominated in the post as they outscored Taylor 42-22 in the paint. Katrina Blackmon (SR/Marion, Ind.) led IWU with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists while Erika Isham (SR/Tekonsha, Mich.) contributed 9 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Wildcats shot 45.6-percent as a team on 26-of-57 shooting. Carlee Cottrell (JR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) chipped in 15 points while Emma Stahl (SR/Elkhart, Ind.) and Jessica Brown (JR/Greenfield, Ind.) each added 6 points.
The game was tied 9-9 in the early portion of the first half. Indiana Wesleyan scored the next 15 points to lead 24-9 with four minutes left before halftime. Brown hit a basket at the buzzer to send Indiana Wesleyan into the break leading 32-14.
The Trojans came out of the second half quickly with 11 of the first 13 points to trim the deficit to 9 points at 34-25. But Stahl scored on the next possession to increase the lead back to double digits. The Trojans would get no closer the rest of the night.
Indiana Wesleyan steadily increased their lead throughout the second half. IWU earned its largest lead of the night at 21 points before leaving Upland with the 65-47 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan will travel to Spring Arbor for their next game on Saturday. The game begins at 1 p.m. in Spring Arbor, Michigan. IWU can clinch a share of the Crossroads League regular season championship with a win on Saturday and would clinch the title outright with a victory and a Marian (Ind.) loss vs. Saint Francis (Ind.).
