MARION, Ind. -- No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball did not trail on Saturday in a 91-60 victory over Huntington (Ind.) in Luckey Arena. The newly minted top-ranked team led by as many as 35 points and had six players score seven or more points.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored 20 of the first 27 points to lead by 13 just 7:30 into the game. IWU never trailed on Saturday.
  • The Wildcats led by as many as 18 points in the first half before taking a 43-26 halftime lead.
  • Jonny Marlin (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) scored midway through the second half to give Indiana Wesleyan a 66-45 lead. IWU led by more than 20 points the rest of the way.
  • A 19-4 run late in the second half pushed the Wildcat advantage to a game high 35 points at 89-54.
  • Indiana Wesleyan shot 53.7-percent (36 of 67) from the field and 50.0-percent (9 of 18) from 3-point range.
  • Bob Peters (JR/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) led a quartet of Wildcats in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Peters added four assists and five steals.
  • Lane Mahurin (JR/Rockville, Ind.) added 17 points and 6 rebounds, Josh Mawhorr (SR/Muncie, Ind.) had 16 points and 8 boards, and Grant Evans (SO/Selma, Ind.) finished with 11 points and was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
  • Jonny Marlin tallied nine points, a career-high seven rebounds, and six assists.

Extra! Extra!

  • Indiana Wesleyan has won five straight games against Huntington.
  • Today’s victory marks the third consecutive Indiana Wesleyan win over Huntington by 31 or more points. Indiana Wesleyan defeated HU by scores of 92-53 and 93-62 last year.

     

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan will play non-league games the rest of December. IWU opens that stretch on Friday, December 11 with a home game against IU Kokomo. Tip-off is 7 p.m. in Luckey Arena.
