Women?s Basketball Flexes Muscle in Win over IU Kokomo

MARION, Ind. -- All 14 Wildcats scored as No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball had their biggest victory in four years with an 82-31 win over IU Kokomo on Saturday afternoon in the final contest of the Leah Whittaker Memorial Classic.

What Went Down

  • Indiana Wesleyan scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter Indiana Wesleyan already led 19-4.
  • The Wildcats scored 11 of the first 12 points in the second quarter to extend their advantage to 30-5. IWU led by as many as 26 points in the first half before heading into halftime up 36-12.
  • Indiana Wesleyan outscored IU Kokomo 25-8 in the third quarter.
  • The Wildcats had their largest lead of the day when Anna Imhoff (SO/Carmel, Ind.) scored for a 74-23 lead with 5:09 left in the fourth quarter.
  • All 14 Wildcats saw eight or more minutes today and each player scored. Carlee Cottrell (SR/West Bloomfield, Mich.) had a game-high 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and Tori Kraft (SR/Harbor Beach, Mich.) added 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • IU Kokomo was limited to 21.7-percent from the field on 10-of-46 shooting.
  • Indiana Wesleyan outrebounded IU Kokomo 44-21. Carlee Cottrell pulled down a game-high 6 boards.

Extra! Extra!

  • A video was shown during halftime to explain the legacy that Leah Whittaker left behind at Indiana Wesleyan. Leah was a freshman center for IWU when she learned she had Stage IV colon cancer on December 7, 2010. She lost her battle with cancer eight months later on August 16, 2011.
  • The 51 point margin of victory is the largest for Indiana Wesleyan since a 101-43 (58 points) victory over Wilberforce (Ohio) on December 1, 2011.

 

Next Time Out

  • Indiana Wesleyan hosts Brescia (Ky.) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Luckey Arena. The game is the fourth home game for IWU in six days and their fifth game overall in eight days.
