MARION, Ind. -- Top-seed Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis quickly dispatched No. 8-seed Bethel (Ind.) by a 9-0 margin on Tuesday afternoon in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals played at Sutter Tennis Center.
The Wildcats did not lose a game in doubles play and lost just six games in singles. Three Wildcats won their matches without losing a game.
Indiana Wesleyan advances to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Thursday. IWU hosts the No. 5-seed Taylor (Ind.) at Sutter Tennis Center.
The Wildcats dominated play in the doubles competitions as all three teams won by 8-0 scores. The teams were Katie Wilson (SR/Middletown, Ind.) and Lucia Solis (FR/Tucuman, Argentina) at No.1, Rachel Bottorff (JR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Alex Mella (FR/Libertyville, Ill.) played No. 2, and Kelsey Vessels (JR/Roanoke, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (JR/Fishers, Ind.) teamed at No. 3.
Bottorff played at No. 2-singles, Solis competed at No. 3-singles, and Vessels was at No. 6-singles and all three won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Wilson pulled out a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1-singles, Mikayla Marazzi (JR/Abbotsford, BC) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4-singles, and Marissa Klein (FR/Evansville, Ind) finished off a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan advances to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Thursday. IWU plays Taylor at Sutter Tennis Center. Taylor defeated No. 4-seed Spring Arbor 6-3. The time of the match will be announced at a later time.
