Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s soccer teams remains stingy as they did not allow a goal for the fifth straight match as they went on the road and defeated Saint Francis (Ind.) 3-0 on Wednesday evening in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The fifth consecutive shutout spans the Indiana Wesleyan calendar in October as it began on Homecoming on October 3 against Oakland City (Ind.). The Wildcats have not allowed a goal in 509 minutes 6 seconds.
As well as the defense has played during that stretch, the Wildcat offense continues to put goals on the scoreboard. Tonight they added three more and now have a 14-0 goal differential during the month of October.
“We played well tonight,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Luke Sanford. “We had over 500 passes and moved the ball efficiently. We weren’t great in front of goal but certainly created chances.”
Indiana Wesleyan peppered the Saint Francis defense all night long en route to a 20-3 advantage in shots and 12-0 in shots on goal.
Jacob Denlinger (JR/Miamisburg, Ohio) scored in the waning seconds of the first half to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at halftime. His brother Caleb Denlinger (JR/Miamisburg, Ohio) assisted on the goal.
Corey Lopez (SR/Warsaw, Ind.) scored early in the second half on a one time shot off an assist from Keaton Albert (SR/Park City, Ill.). The goal put Indiana Wesleyan ahead 2-0 in the 55th minute. Seth Kintigh (SR/Concord, Mich.) completed the scoring for Indiana Wesleyan with a tally in the 81st minute on another assist by Albert.
“We got to rotate the team and played a ton of guys,” said Sanford. “We had some really good contributions off the bench like Jacob Denlinger, Jonathan Hampton (JR/Dakar, Senegal), and Johnny Fredericks (SR/Arlington Heights, Ill.). We are in a good rhythm and feel good about our form. Got to keep our momentum going, defending well, and taking our chances when they present themselves.”
Indiana Wesleyan has won six in a row to improve to 10-4-1 this season and 5-1-0 in Crossroads League matches. Saint Francis drops to 0-13-1 and 0-5-1 in the league.
Indiana Wesleyan plays again on Saturday with a match at Huntington (Ind.). Kickoff for the match will be at 2 p.m.
