Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Tech slipped past the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s soccer team on Friday night in the IWU Classic held at Wildcat Field.
The Warriors escaped with a 2-1 victory in a match that was called with 6:11 left to play. The match was suspended and ultimately called due to lightning.
Neither team could score until Indiana Wesleyan broke the scoreless tie in the 69th minute. Kaitlin Heckman found Katie Pannabecker (JR/Leo, Ind.) in the 18-yard box and Pannabecker beat the Warrior keeper to the near post for a 1-0 advantage.
The IWU excitement from first goal was quickly erased as Indiana Tech scored the equalizer just over two minutes later in the 71st minute. Nicole Price headed the ball in for Indiana Tech off a corner kick set piece. Then nine minutes later Indiana Tech scored the game-winning goal off the foot of Megan Perrey in the 80th minute.
Indiana Wesleyan doubled up Indiana Tech in both shots and shots on goal. IWU held the advantage in both categories by a 14-7 margin in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal. Megan Weiss (FR/Lexington, Ohio) made on save in net for IWU.
In the first match of the classic, Grace (Ind.) defeated Georgetown (Ky.), 3-1. The final match of the IWU Classic is at 5 p.m. on Saturday when Georgetown and Indiana Tech meet.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in a road contest at No. 25-ranked Trinity International in Deerfield, Illinois.
