MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team wrapped up the fall regular season schedule this afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Cedarville (Ohio) at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan now prepares for the Crossroads League Tournament which begins on Tuesday. The winner of the league tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship during the spring season.
IWU made quick work of Cedarville with three easy wins in doubles play. Katie Wilson (JR/Middletown, Ind.) and Kim Mella (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) claimed an 8-3 win at No. 1-doubles and the No. 2-team of Rachel Bottorff (SO/Newburgh, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (SO/Roanoke, Ind.) won 8-1. The No. 3-team of Diane Jones (SR/Greenwood, Ind.) and Ellen Hornett (SO/Fishers, Ind.) earned the point with an 8-4 victory.
The success in doubles carried over to singles. Wilson won 6-1, 1-6, 10-3 from the top position and Bottorff pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2-singles. Courtney Siepman (JR/Plainfield, Ind.) earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 3-singles and Vessels won 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth position. Mella won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 play and Mikayla Marazzi (SO/Abbotsford, BC) took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan is the No. 2-seed in the Crossroads League Tournament that begins on Tuesday. IWU hosts No. 7-seed Saint Francis (Ind.) at 3 p.m. at the Sutter Tennis Center.
