UPLAND, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis cruised today as they defeated Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) by a 9-0 score in Upland, Indiana.
The Wildcats improve their record to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in Crossroads League contests. The Trojans fall to 1-8 and 1-6 in league matches.
The victory started this afternoon with a quick 3-0 Indiana Wesleyan advantage following doubles play. Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 1-doubles, Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) and Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) took an 8-3 win at No. 2-doubles, and Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) and Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) easily won 8-0 at No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to dominate in singles matches as they won all six in straight sets. Johnson won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1-singles and White earned the point 6-2, 6-2 at the second position. Mathews earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 3-singles and Montgomery pulled out a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4. Austin Christner (FR/Goshen, Ind.) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5-singles and Daniel Smith (JR/Crown Point, Ind.) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.
Indiana Wesleyan will next take the courts at 3 p.m. on Tuesday with a road match at Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
