MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team easily defeated visiting Bethel (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon in a 9-0 victory at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The Wildcats lost just 10 games in the match with the Pilots. The victory moves the Wildcats to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Crossroads League.
Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) took the No. 1-match by an 8-0 score while Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) teamed with Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) and was victorious 8-1 at No. 2-doubles. In the third doubles match, Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) and Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) earned an 8-2 win to send IWU into singles contests up 3-0.
Johnson earned the point in No. 1-singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory and White earned the win at No. 2-singles by a 6-1, 6-1 outcome. Mathews cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3-singles and Montgomery claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 play. Dubuque won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5-singles and Austin Christner (FR/Goshen, Ind.) was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan next plays in non-league competition on Saturday at Northwestern Ohio. The match begins at 1 p.m. in Lima, Ohio.
