HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis improved to 8-1 this season with an 8-1 victory at Huntington (Ind.) in Huntington, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan (8-1, 4-1 CL) gained the early advantage with a sweep in doubles play. Kim Mella (SR/Libertyville, Ill.) and Katie Wilson (JR/Middletown, Ind.) earned an 8-2 win in the No. 1-doubles match while the No. 2 team of Rachel Bottorff (SO/Newburgh, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (SO/Roanoke, Ind.) plus the No. 3 team of Gabby D’Aniello and Ellen Hornett (SO/Fishers, Ind.) won their matches by identical 8-1 scores.
The Wildcats continued their dominant performance in singles with wins in five of six matches. Vessels at the No. 4-singles spot and Morgan Smith (FR/Bremen, Ind.) at No. 6-singles each won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Wilson claimed the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-1 and Bottorff was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2-singles. Mikayla Marazzi (SO/Abbotsford, BC) won the point at No. 5-singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory while Courtney Siepman (JR/Plainfield, Ind.) lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts on Saturday with a home match vs. Taylor. That match begins at 11 a.m. at the Sutter Tennis Center.
