MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team pitched a shutout on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 victory against visiting Spring Arbor (Mich.) at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan ups their record on the season to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Crossroads League. Spring Arbor now stands 5-2 this season with all seven matches coming in league play.
Kyle Johnson (SR/East Moline, Ill.) and Brandon Dubuque (JR/Marion, Ind.) played at No. 1-doubles and won 8-5. The No. 2 team of Gavin White (SO/Lakeland, Fla.) and Leonard Mathews (JR/Merrillville, Ind.) plus the No. 3 pair of Joel Montgomery (FR/Powell, Ohio) and Adam Wroughton (SR/Schereville, Ind.) both won their contests by identical 8-4 scores.
In singles competition, Johnson won 6-2, 6-1 in the first position and White won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2-singles. Mathews picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 and Montgomery cruised to an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory in the fourth spot. Dubuque won No. 5-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Wroughton closed out the sweep with a 5-7, 7-6, 10-8 win at No. 6.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes at 10 a.m. on Saturday in a Grant County rival match at Taylor (Ind.) in Upland, Indiana.
