MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University sophomore Katie Wilson (SO/Middletown, Ind.) was named the NAIA Women’s Tennis National Player of the Week, the NAIA national office announced this afternoon. The national recognition is the first for a Wildcat tennis player.
Wilson won four singles matches and four doubles matches as Indiana Wesleyan went 4-0 on the week. The honor is for the week of April 7-13.
Wilson and her No. 1-doubles team partner Kim Mella (JR/Libertyville, Ill.) dropped just one game during their first three matches of the week. They defeated Purdue Calumet (Ind.) and Taylor (Ind.) by 8-0 scores and Indiana Southeast 8-1. The duo completed the week with an 8-6 victory against Aquinas (Mich.).
As the No. 1-singles player, Wilson lost just one set in four matches. Wilson defeated Purdue Calumet 6-1, 6-1 and Taylor 6-2, 6-3. To conclude the week Wilson won 6-1, 6-1 vs. Indiana Southeast and 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 against Aquinas.
Indiana Wesleyan is 23-2 this season and ranked No. 18 in the latest NAIA Top-25 Poll.
