MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis defeated visiting Taylor (Ind.) 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Mark Richards Classic at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan put a stamp on the match following doubles play as IWU did not drop a game. The three teams of Katie Wilson (SO/Middletown, Ind.) and Kim Mella (JR/Libertyville, Ill.), Rachel Bottorff (FR/Newburgh, Ind.) and Rachael Heiniger (SR/Munster, Ind.), and Courtney Siepman (SO/Plainfield, Ind.) and Kelsey Vessels (FR/Roanoke, Ind.) all won by 8-0 scores.
The dominating play continued over into singles play. Indiana Wesleyan did not drop a set as they won all six matches in straight sets.
Wilson won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 1-singles and Bottorff claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 play. Heiniger earned the 6-4, 6-1 victory in No. 3-singles and Mella took the point at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Kristen Futrell (SR/Marion, Ind.) gained the 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 and Siepman was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6-singles.
The Wildcats improve to 21-2 this year and 5-2 during spring season.
IWU will play two more matches tomorrow to complete the Mark Richards Classic. Indiana Wesleyan battles IU Southeast at 9 a.m. and finishes the weekend with a match against Aquinas (Mich.) at 2 p.m.
