MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis collected their first win of the spring season with an easy 9-0 victory Saturday afternoon over visiting Saint Francis (Ill.).
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 17-1 overall this year and 1-1 during the spring session. IWU earned the 9-0 victory despite not having the services of Kristen Futrell who was out with an injury.
The Wildcats collected wins in all three doubles competitions for a 3-0 advantage. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella played the No. 1 position and pulled out an 8-4 win, the same outcome for Rachel Bottorff and Rachael Heiniger in No. 2 doubles. Sarah Richert and Diane Jones teamed at the No. 3 spot and won 8-3 to complete the doubles sweep.
Indiana Wesleyan went on into singles play and did not drop a set.
Wilson won 6-2, 7-5 in the top singles match and Bottorff was victorious 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2-singles. Heiniger was triumphant 6-1, 6-1 in the third match and Mella took the point in No. 4-singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Courtney Siepman won No. 5-singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score and Gabby D'Aniello took a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the sixth position.
Indiana Wesleyan remains at home for their next match which will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday vs. Purdue Calumet (Ind.).
