Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. -- Goshen (Ind.) went the distance with No. 10-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball tonight but the Wildcats pulled out a 58-52 victory on the road in Goshen, Indiana.
Goshen (4-25, 1-16 CL) had lost its last 10 games and holds just one win in the Crossroads League. But on Wednesday night they gave a scare into Indiana Wesleyan, who struggled on the offensive end of the floor. IWU finished at 34.7-percent (17 of 49) shooting and 10.0-percent (1 of 10) from 3-point range.
The first half featured six ties and five lead changes with Indiana Wesleyan leading 24-22 at the break. Both teams held advantages of four points in the opening 20 minutes of play. Chelsea Winner came off the bench and provided a spark with a team-leading seven points in the half as she shot 5-of-6 from the foul line.
Indiana Wesleyan (23-6, 13-4 CL) built an advantage of six points in the early portion of the second half. But Goshen fought back to force a tie on two occasions, the last coming at 34-34. But a 9-2 Indiana Wesleyan run allowed the Wildcats to earn their biggest lead so far at 43-36 with 9 minutes remaining.
Goshen responded with seven of the next eight points to cut the deficit to one point at 44-43 with less than six minutes left. Indiana Wesleyan again answered with a 12-3 run for the only double digit lead of the night at 56-46 with 17 seconds to play. Taylor Goshert ended the stretch with two free throws with 17 seconds to go.
Goshert gained a double-double tonight to lead the Wildcats. Goshert finished with game highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds. She hit 9-of-12 from the foul line. Emma Stahl nearly joined Goshert with a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
The win coupled with a Huntington (Ind.) loss to Saint Francis (Ind.) allows Indiana Wesleyan to move into a second place tie with Huntington. If the two teams finish in a tie on Saturday, Huntington would earn the second seed in the Crossroads League Tournament. Huntington plays at Taylor on Saturday.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to Luckey Arena at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the final regular season game on the schedule. IWU will celebrate Goshert, Abby Reinke, and Lindsay Dager as the play their final regular season home game on Senior Night which will have a post-game ceremony.
