Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball did not trail for the first 35 minutes on Tuesday but Georgetown (Ky.) took the lead late and held on in a 64-59 game in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Indiana Wesleyan raced out to a 12-2 advantage in the first five minutes of action. IWU built their largest lead of the day of 13 points when Kelsey Key (SO/Anderson, Ind.) hit a 3-point shot for a 28-15 lead with 8:02 left before halftime. Georgetown narrowed the deficit to five points late but Teneil Krebs (SR/Bucyrus, Ohio) hit a 3-pointer for the final points of the half. IWU led 37-29 at the break.
The Tigers scored the first eight points of the second half to tie the game 37-37. Over the next 12 minutes Indiana Wesleyan held a lead no greater than five points and there were three more ties. Jessica Foster connected on a basket for Georgetown with 4:38 remaining to put Georgetown in front for the first time at 53-52.
The Wildcats trailed 58-56 when Erika Isham (SR/Tekonsha, Mich.) scored with 1:17 to play. Tralyn Woodard connected on two free throws with 47 left to increase the GC advantage to 60-56. The Wildcats raced down the floor but Katrina Blackmon (SR/Marion, Ind.) missed a field goal attempt and the Tigers grabbed the rebound. IWU was forced to foul and Foster hit both free throws for a 62-56 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan made one final push when Krebs made a 3-pointer with 17 second left to cut the deficit in half to 62-59. After an Indiana Wesleyan timeout, Georgetown broke free and scored on a layup with 12 seconds left to secure the 64-59 victory.
The Wildcats shot 41.1-percent (23 of 56) from the field and 28.6-percent (4 of 14) from 3-point range. Blackmon led the team in scoring with 12 points and Key added 10 points. Isham contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers were limited to 39.2-percent (20 of 51) shooting tonight. Foster finished with a game-high 24 points and Devanny King added 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan -- ranked No. 5 in NAIA Division II -- falls to 10-3 this season. Georgetown -- ranked No. 25 in NAIA Division I -- improves to 7-4.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes at the Taylor Classic on December 30-31 in Upland, Indiana.
