Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s soccer team won their third consecutive Crossroads League regular season championship on Wednesday night on a golden goal in the second overtime at Spring Arbor (Mich.).
Corey Lopez (JR/Warsaw, Ind.) scored the game-winning goal on a bicycle kick in the 105th minute to send the Wildcats into a frenetic celebration on the field. Sam Kane (SR/Jackson, Mich.) served the ball into Lopez who was in the middle of the 18-yard box. His bicycle kick went to the far post for the 2-1 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan clinched a share of the Crossroads League regular season title before the match even started as Taylor (Ind.) lost 2-0 to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) this afternoon. Indiana Wesleyan needed just one point tonight to clinch the outright championship.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 14-1-0 this season and 8-0-0 in the Crossroads League standings. IWU has won 13 consecutive matches and is now ranked No. 9 in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. Indiana Wesleyan will be the No. 1-seed and have home field advantage in the upcoming Crossroads League Tournament that begins on November 1.
Spring Arbor scored the first goal of the match in the 68th minute. Adam Hunt scored the easy goal following a turnover by IWU keeper Josh Goepper (JR/Shelby Township, Mich.). Lopez scored the game-tying goal late in the match with a goal in the 87th minute. Tyrone Martin (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) sent in a crossing pass where Lopez headed home the equalizer with 3:42 left on the clock.
The Wildcats dominated most of the match on Wednesday. IWU held a sizable 18-7 lead in shots and led 10-2 in shots on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan will finish the 2014 regular season at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. IWU hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Senior Night at Wildcat Field.
