Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Wednesday night featured a quick Crossroads League volleyball match in Luckey Arena as Indiana Wesleyan University defeated visiting Spring Arbor (Mich.) 3-0.
The Wildcats won 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 to improve to 21-5 overall and remain all alone in first place in the Crossroads League with an 11-1 record. The Cougars drop to 1-20 and 0-12 in league play. SAU has lost 17 straight matches.
Kylie Portera (SO/Lake in the Hills, Ill.) led Indiana Wesleyan with seven kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Alijah Mulitauopele (SR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) contributed six kills and Morgan Miller (FR/Goshen, Ind.) added five kills with a .625 hitting percentage. Katey Holler (JR/Marion, Ohio) assisted on 28 of the 33 Indiana Wesleyan attacks. IWU served eight aces on Wednesday with Kelly Cypher (JR/Libertyville, Ill.) leading the way with three. Ashlen Buck (SO/Brazil, Ind.) and Sam Elkin (SO/Ebensburg, Pa.) each added a pair of aces.
The Wildcats blocked eight shots against the Cougars. Remy Bucknor (SO/Euless, Texas) had two solo blocks and three block assists while Portera had three block assists. Mulitauopele and Tay Thomas each finished with a pair of block assists. Buck tied for the most digs in the contest with 11 while Banner Rodgers (FR/Carrollton, Texas) added seven digs and Holler earned six.
Indiana Wesleyan plays a pair of home Crossroads League matches this weekend. On Friday, IWU hosts Bethel (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on St. Martin’s Community Center Day. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items that can be given to St. Martin’s Food Pantry. On Saturday, Indiana Wesleyan hosts Goshen (Ind.) at 3 p.m. on Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
