Women?s Tennis Makes Short Work of IU East

RICHOMOND, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis lost a grand total of nine games today as the Wildcats easily beat host IU East 9-0 in Richmond, Indiana.

Five of the nine matches played on Thursday were Indiana Wesleyan shutouts. Two of those came in doubles as the No. 2 team of Rachael Heiniger and Kelsey Vessels and the No. 3 duo of Gabby D’Aniello and Mikayla Marazzi both won by 8-0 scores. Heiniger, Marazzi, and Vessels also earned 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in their singles matches. Heiniger won in the second spot while Marazzi and Vessels were No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

The top doubles team for the Wildcats consisted of Rachel Bottorff and Kristin Futrell who won 8-4. The other three singles players all had one set where the Wolves did not win a game. Bottorff won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 position, Futrell claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3-singles, and D’Aniello won 6-0, 6-3 in No. 4-singles.

Indiana Wesleyan will next play at 10 a.m. on Saturday against Saint Francis (Ind.) in Crossroads League play. The match will take place at the Sutter Tennis Center.
