MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis remained perfect in the 2013 fall season with a 9-0 shutout of Huntington (Ind.) on Tuesday night at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The Wildcats up their record to 8-0 this season and 5-0 in Crossroads League competition while the Foresters fall to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.
In doubles, Katie Wilson and Kim Mella won 8-6 in No. 1-doubles, Courtney Siepman and Ellen Hornett were victorious 8-5 in No. 2-doubles, and Sarah Richert and Diane Jones pulled out an 8-3 win in the final match.
The wins kept coming in singles contests. Wilson survived a three set win 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 in No. 1-singles, Rachel Bottorff won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2, and Rachael Heiniger captured a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 3-singles. Siepman captured the No. 4 point with a 6-2, 6-0 win while Gabby D’Aniello cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 5-singles. Huntington did field a player for No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will now play in the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Play begins on Thursday with championship matches being contested on Saturday.
