MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis continues its winning ways early in the 2013 season with an 8-1 victory at Crossroads League foe Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana.
The Wildcats extend their overall record to 3-0 this season and 2-0 in league play. The Pilots stumble to 0-3 and 0-2 in Crossroads League action.
Indiana Wesleyan garnered an early 2-1 advantage following the completion of doubles play. Kyle Johnson and Brandon Dubuque won 8-3 in the No. 1 spot while Leonard Mathews and Garvin White won the point at No. 2-doubles 8-3. Alex Wroughton and Alex Hornett dropped a tough 9-7 decision in No. 3 action.
The Wildcats owned singles play with victories in all six contests. The team lost just a single set.
Johnson played the top position and earned a 6-0, 6-1 win and Dubuque matched him at the No. 2-singles spot with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Mathews also won 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 3 position and White was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Daniel Smith pulled out the win at No. 5-singles with a 6-2, 6-2 decision and Wroughton captured the No. 6 point at 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
Indiana Wesleyan will play their first home match of the season on Tuesday at 3 p.m. IWU will leave league play for the day to battle Northwestern Ohio at the Sutter Tennis Center.
