GOSHEN, Ind. -- In only their second match of the season the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team jumped into Crossroads League play and came out victorious 6-3 at Goshen (Ind.) on Tuesday.
The Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league standings. Goshen drops to 0-1 in their first contest of the season.
Indiana Wesleyan won two doubles matches to build an early 2-1 advantage. Kyle Johnson and Brandon Dubuque won the top doubles match by an 8-5 score while Adam Wroughton and Alex Hornett claimed an 8-2 win in No. 3-doubles. Leonard Mathews and Gavin White fell 8-5 in the No. 2 competition.
The Wildcats proceeded to take four of six singles matches to claim the 6-3 team victory. Johnson and Wroughton each won their singles match and were the only two Wildcats that won twice on Tuesday. Johnson won 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1-singles while Wroughton earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6-singles.
Mathews played No. 3-singles for IWU and won 6-4, 6-2 while White won 6-3, 6-1 in No. 4-singles. Dubuque lost 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2-singles play and Daniel Smith dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the courts on Saturday at Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana. The match begins at 11 a.m.
