BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- It was a top-20 showdown on Saturday as No. 18-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University defeated No. 13-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
The loss for the Wildcats ends an 18-match win streak to start the season. IWU is now 18-1 overall and 3-1 in the spring season.
Olivet Nazarene took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella won the only doubles match for Indiana Wesleyan in the No. 2 spot with an 8-2 victory. Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson dropped an 8-1 decision in the top match while Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell lost 8-5 in No. 3 play.
Indiana Wesleyan won two of the six singles matches. Winning their individual matches were Meyering (6-3, 6-1) in No. 3-singles and Futrell (6-3, 6-2) in No. 5-singles.
Falling in singles competitions were Heiniger (2-6, 2-6) at No. 1-singles, Katie Wilson (6-4, 3-6, 2-6) in the No. 2 spot, Lauren Wilson (1-6, 7-6, 2-6) at No. 4, and Mella (4-6, 4-6) in the No. 6 position.
