Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Emma Stahl set a new career-high in points in a game to help No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women’s basketball roll past host Cornerstone (Mich.) 66-47 on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Stahl finished the afternoon with a game-best 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She was 3-of-3 from 3-point range and was 4-of-5 from the foul line. She tied her previous career-high of 17 points with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left in the first half. Along with a great shooting night, Stahl earned six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
With the Wildcats holding an 18-13 lead near the midway point of the first half Stahl connected on two straight 3-point attempts to give the Wildcats their first double digit lead of the day. The two baskets ignited a 15-0 run that concluded with IWU up 33-13 and 6:05 remaining until intermission.
Cornerstone (5-4) would get as close as 13 points at 35-22 late in the first half. But to end the half and the first seven minutes of the second half, Indiana Wesleyan had another big run of 17-5 to extend the lead to 52-27. The 25 point lead was the largest of the afternoon.
Teneil Krebs tied a career-high with 14 points. She was 5-of-8 shooting and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. The four 3-pointers tie the most for Krebs in a game. No other Wildcat hit double figures but Val Sohasky added nine points.
Indiana Wesleyan (8-0) won the battle on the boards 42-33. Taylor Goshert pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Stahl had six and Sohasky and Krebs each contributed five boards.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 47.1-percent (24 of 51) from the field and a red-hot 57.1-percent (8 of 14) from 3-point range. Conversely, Cornerstone was limited to 32.1-percent (18 of 56) shooting percentage and 16.7-percent (2 of 12) from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats return to Luckey Arena their next time out at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Grace (Ind.). The Crossroads League showdown will be the second league game of the season.
