Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The offense was clicking in high gear for No. 23-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University men’s soccer in a 5-0 shutout of host Mount Vernon Nazarene today in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Geoff Bowman registered four points and Tyrone Martin added two as the pair moved to the top for Indiana Wesleyan. The five goals is a season-high for the Wildcats and surpasses their goal total from the past three games combined.
“Excellent performance and a convincing win today,” said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Mark Castro. “Very pleased with our teams attacking. Tad Glibert and Dylan Bronkema locked things down in the back while Geoff Bowman and Tyrone Martin were stellar up front.”
The first goal came in the 15th minute as Bowman crossed a beautiful pass to a wide open Martin in front of the net. He easily headed it in for the eventual game-winning goal. Shortly thereafter Bowman would earn his second assist as Evan Young scored his first collegiate goal in the 21st minute. IWU added one more goal in the first half when Keaton Albert scored unassisted off a turnover for the 3-0 advantage.
Bowman continued his big day in the second half with two scores of his own. He had his first early in the second half off an assist from Martin in the 50th minute. Bowman capped the big scoring day in the 61st minute with an unassisted goal.
Josh Goepper earned the shutout for Indiana Wesleyan in net as he made five saves on the afternoon. Indiana Wesleyan only outshot Mount Vernon Nazarene 15-14 and held a slight 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 8-2-2 on the season and 3-0-2 in Crossroads League matches. Mount Vernon Nazarene falls to 6-6-1 and 1-2-1 in league action.
The Wildcats return home this weekend for their Homecoming match. Indiana Wesleyan hosts Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday in non-league play.
