UPLAND, Ind. -- It was another close match that went in favor of the Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team on Wednesday evening in a 5-4 victory over Taylor (Ind.) in Upland, Indiana.
The win keeps the Wildcats perfect with a 7-0 record during the fall and 5-0 in Crossroads League action. It was the third one point victory already this season for the Wildcats, all in their last four matches.
Indiana Wesleyan earned two wins in doubles matches and then split the singles competitions.
Kyle Johnson and Alex McMahan won 8-6 in No. 1-doubles while Leonard Matthews and Brandon Dubuque earned an 8-2 victory in No. 2-doubles. Brooks Ayers and Daniel Stoddard lost a hard fought 6-8 decision in No. 3-doubles.
Earning singles victories for the Wildcats were Johnson (6-0, 6-1) in No. 1-singles, Dubuque (6-0, 6-0) in No. 3-singles, and Stoddard (6-1, 6-2) in No. 6-singles.
Matthews retired before his No. 2-singles match could be completed, McMahan lost 3-6, 4-6 in No. 4-singles, and Ayers dropped a 6-2, 2-6, 5-7 decision in No. 5-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan quickly returns to the courts as the Wildcats host Trine (Ind.) at 12 p.m. on Thursday. The match will take place at the Sutter Tennis Center.
