MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis dropped just one set on Wednesday in a 9-0 victory over Grant County rival Taylor (Ind.) at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 9-0 during the fall season and 6-0 in Crossroads League contests. Indiana Wesleyan and Marian (Ind.) remain tied atop the league with just three matches left to play. Marian visits Indiana Wesleyan next Tuesday, September 25.
It was three easy doubles wins for the Wildcats as the Trojans could only muster wins in four combined games. Lauren Wilson and Andrea Meyering earned an 8-2 win in No. 1-sinlges while the No. 2-doubles pairing of Kim Mella and Katie Wilson and the No. 3-team of Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell each won their matches by 8-1 scores.
Indiana Wesleyan compiled five straight set victories in singles competitions. Those five wins were by Heiniger (6-1, 6-2) in No. 1-singles, Katie Wilson (6-3, 6-4) in No. 2, Meyering (6-2, 6-0) in No. 3, Lauren Wilson (6-2, 6-0) in No. 4, and Futrell (6-1, 6-1) in No. 5 play. Mella earned a three set win in No. 6-singles (5-7, 6-3, 10-8) to preserve the shutout.
The Wildcats return to the courts on Saturday at 11 a.m. as IWU travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana to battle Saint Francis (Ind.).
