MARION, Ind. -- Visiting Huntington (Ind.) University became the sixth team this season to be shutout by the Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team.
The Wildcats won 9-0 over the Foresters in a match played today at the Sutter Tennis Center. It was the third consecutive 9-0 win for the Wildcats.
All nine matches were easy victories for Indiana Wesleyan, starting with the doubles teams that combined to lose just two points. Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson cruised to an 8-0 win in No. 1-doubles. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella at No. 2-doubles and Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell at No. 3-doubles each won by 8-1 scores.
Half of the 12 sets in singles play were 6-0 wins for Indiana Wesleyan. Katie Wilson at No. 2-singles and Andrea Meyering in the No. 3 spot each won 6-0, 6-0. Futrell won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 and Richert earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 for the other two shutouts in a set. Heiniger gained the point in No. 1-singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory and Diane Jones took No. 6 action by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 7-0 this fall and 5-0 in Crossroads League action. IWU quickly returns to competition as they play at Cornerstone (Mich.) tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
