MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team sank the visiting Bethel (Ind.) College Pilots just before the heavy rains came on Saturday at the Sutter Tennis Center.
Indiana Wesleyan won 6-0 as the final three singles matches were called as torrential rains fell on Marion. The win was the third straight for Indiana Wesleyan to open the season and the second in Crossroads League play.
The Wildcats were dominant all afternoon. The No. 1-doubles team of sophomore Kyle Johnson and freshman Alex McMahan as well as the No. 2-doubles team of freshmen Leonard Matthews and Brandon Dubuque both won by 8-2 margins. Senior Brooks Ayers and Daniel Stoddard cruised to an 8-0 victory in No. 3-doubles action.
The top three singles matches were completed before the rain washed away the last three singles competitions. Johnson dominated No. 1-singles 6-1, 6-0 and Matthews earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 2 play. Dubuque did not lose a game in No. 3-singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play a non-conference match on Tuesday at University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima. The match begins at 3:30 p.m.
