SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team dropped its first point of the season but still cruised in an 8-1 victory at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
The Wildcats had previously defeated IU-Southeast and Goshen (Ind.) College by 9-0 margins. The win moves the team to 3-0 this fall and 2-0 in Crossroads League play. The Cougars fall to 0-2.
Spring Arbor secured its only point of the match in No. 3-doubles. Diane Jones and Courtney Siepman dropped a close 8-6 decision to their Cougar counterpart. Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson claimed an 8-1 win in No. 1-doubles while Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell earned the point in No. 2-doubles with an 8-3 triumph.
All six Wildcat singles players won in straight sets. Heiniger earned the victory in No. 1 play (6-1, 6-2), Katie Wilson won No. 2-singles (6-4, 6-1), Meyering snagged the point in No. 3-singles (6-1, 6-0), Lauren Wilson captured a victory in No. 4 action (6-2, 6-1), Futrell easily won the No. 5-singles match (6-0, 6-2), and Kim Mella cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to Marion for its next action which will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. IWU hosts Bethel (Ind.) College at the Sutter Tennis Center in Crossroads League action.
