GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team lost just five games on Tuesday in a 9-0 sweep of Goshen (Ind.) College in the Crossroads League opener for both teams in Goshen, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan won all but one game in doubles competition while four of six Wildcats earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles play.
The Wildcats were perfect in No. 1-doubles and No. 3-doubles competitions with 8-0 scores. Lauren Wilson and Andrea Meyering played as the top doubles team while Sarah Richert teamed with Diane Jones as the victors in No. 3-doubles. Katie Wilson and Kim Mella rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 win in No. 2 action.
Katie Wilson (No. 2-singles), Kristen Futrell (No. 3), Courtney Siepman (No. 4), and Bridget Christner (No. 6) did not drop a game in singles play as the quartet all won by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Rachael Heiniger took a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 1-singles while Gabby D'Aniello captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 5-singles.
The win moves Indiana Wesleyan to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Crossroads League play. IWU will remain in league play on Thursday as they travel to Spring Arbor (Mich.) University. The match begins at 4 p.m.
