MOBILE, Ala. -- After just two of three pool play matches the Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team has already punched a ticket to the NCCAA National Championship semifinals in Mobile, Alabama.
Indiana Wesleyan and Campbellsville (Ky.) University each won their two matches on Tuesday in Pool B to ensure both squads a spot in the semifinal round. The two pools will have the top two teams advance to the next round.
The Wildcats opened the morning with a 5-2 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College and then finished off Judson (Ill.) University 5-2 in the afternoon session. IWU will play Campbellsville tomorrow morning in the final pool play competition to determine seeding for the semifinals.
Indiana Wesleyan opened with two of three wins in doubles play for the early 2-1 lead. In singles, Indiana Wesleyan already gained one point due to a forfeit in the No. 6-spot as Emmanuel only had five players. Luke Montgomery took the win 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3-singles and Alex Hornett then won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5-singles to wrap up the victory.
Postseason matches come to a stop once a team reaches the five wins necessary to win the team match.
