MARION, Ind. -- No. 16-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis captured an impressive 9-0 sweep of visiting Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University on Wednesday at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The victory was No. 600 for longtime head coach Terry Porter as a collegiate tennis coach, all at Indiana Wesleyan. Porter has a 377-41 record while coaching the women's team since 1991 and he also accumulated a 223-107 record as the men's tennis coach from 1968-95.
Indiana Wesleyan had little issues in dispatching Olivet Nazarene, a team receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson won 8-5 in No. 1-doubles, Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell earned the point in No. 2-doubles with an 8-3 win, and Aubrey Lohser and Diane Jones finished the 3-0 sweep in doubles with an 8-3 victory in No. 3-doubles.
Heiniger earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 1-singles, Meyering won the No. 2-singles point with a 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 victory, and Wilson captured a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 3-singles. Futrell won 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 4-singles position, Kim Mella cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 5-singles, and Lohser completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 17-2 this season and 3-2 during the spring schedule.
