Women's Tennis Trumps Division I Valparaiso

MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis continues a successful spring season with a hard fought win over NCAA Division I Valparaiso (Ind.) University.

The Wildcats took two of three doubles matches after being behind at all three positions late into doubles play.

The No. 1-doubles team of Lauren Wilson and Andrea Meyering captured a 9-8 win while Aubrey Lohser and Diane Jones battled for an 8-5 win at No. 3-doubles. Kristen Futrell and Rachael Heiniger fought hard in a 6-8 loss at No. 2-doubles.

Singles play was strong as the Wildcats came through taking four out of six matches. 

Heiniger won at the No. 1-singles position with a 6-2, 6-2 win, Meyering cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2-singles, Futrell easily emerged victorious at the No. 4-singles position, and Sarah Richert was victorious at No. 5-singles with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win. Kim Mella fell at No. 5-singles with a 6-4, 6-7 (1), 9-11 loss, while Wilson lost at No. 3-singles 3-6, 4-6.

Indiana Wesleyan improves to 6-2 in the spring and 20-2 overall on the year. The next match for the women is at home at Sutter Tennis Center is at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 30 against Albion (Mich.) College.
