Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- The stout defense for No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball was out in full force Wednesday in a 68-40 victory over host Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
Grace (7-2, 1-1 CL) was limited to just 27.1-percent (13 of 48) shooting and turned the ball over 17 times as IWU scored 19 points off those turnovers. Indiana Wesleyan kept Grace to halves of 19 and 21 points while no Lancer scored in double figures.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats were led by sophomore Katrina Blackmon and senior Paige Smith. Blackmon scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting. She also managed five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Smith just missed a double-double with 15 points and a game-best nine rebounds. Junior Taylor Goshert contributed five points, eight rebounds, and four assists while sophomore Teneil Krebs added eight points off the bench.
Indiana Wesleyan (8-0, 2-0 CL) had 11 players score and shot 46.2-percent (24 of 52) from the field. IWU hit 38.9-percent (7 of 18) from beyond the arc but struggled at the foul line, hitting on just 54.2-percent (13 of 24).
The Wildcats led throughout and a late surge in the first half gave IWU a 31-19 advantage at the break. Blackmon was the main contributor for the Wildcats in the opening half as she scored 15 points in the first 20 minutes.
With the victory Indiana Wesleyan now has more wins at the Orthopedic Capital Center this season than they do at Luckey Arena. While Indiana Wesleyan has won both its home games this season, IWU has won three games at the OCC over the past 13 days as Indiana Wesleyan earned two wins at the Grace Classic less than two week ago.
Indiana Wesleyan remains on the road for their next game at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University. That game is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 1 and will complete Crossroads League competitions until January.
