MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team advanced to the Crossroads League Tournament championship match once again after an easy 9-0 victory over Spring Arbor (Mich.) University on Thursday.
No. 1-seed Indiana Wesleyan won the semifinals match 9-0 over No. 4-seed Spring Arbor at the Sutter Tennis Center. IWU advances to the tournament championship match on Saturday against No. 2 Marian (Ind.) University.
The Wildcats reeled off three easy victories in doubles to open the afternoon. Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson won No. 1-doubles 8-3, Katie Wilson and Kim Mella took an 8-1 victory in No. 2-doubles, and Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell captured an 8-1 win in No. 3-doubles.
Indiana Wesleyan continued to dominate Spring Arbor with wins in all six singles matches. Five of the six were won in straight sets.
Heiniger (6-1, 6-1) gained the point in No. 1-singles, Meyering (6-3, 6-0) claimed the No. 2-singles win, Lauren Wilson (6-0, 6-0) did not drop a game in No. 3-singles, Futrell (6-2, 6-7, 10-8) survived a marathon contest in No. 4-singles, Mella (6-3, 7-5) wrapped up the point in No. 5-singles, and Sarah Richert (6-2, 6-0) cruised to the No. 6-singles win.
Indiana Wesleyan and Marian will do battle on Saturday in the Crossroads League Tournament Finals. The top two seeds will play at the Sutter Tennis Center during Indiana Wesleyan's Homecoming with a time to be announced.
