MARION, Ind. -- Top-seed Indiana Wesleyan University cruised by No. 8-seed Huntington (Ind.) University 5-0 today in the Crossroads League Women's Tennis Tournament First Round.
The match was contested in the Howard County Indoor Tennis Complex due to rain.
But that did not slow down the undefeated Wildcats as they quickly tallied the team's fifth point and called it a day. Since the match was played inside on limited courts the match was stopped once IWU claimed the win.
Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson earned an 8-5 win in No. 1-doubles, Katie Wilson and Kim Mella quickly won 8-1 in No. 2-doubles, and Rachael Heiniger and Kristen Futrell finished the doubles sweep at No. 3 play with an 8-1 victory.
Needing just two points in singles action to complete the match, the Wildcats quickly did so with wins in the final two spots. Sarah Richert won No. 5-singles 6-1, 6-0 while Diane Jones took No. 6 play 6-2, 6-1.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 13-0 this fall and will next play on Thursday in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals. IWU awaits the winner of No. 4-seed Spring Arbor (Mich.) University and No. 5-seed Taylor (Ind.) University.
