Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Spring Arbor (Mich.) University handed the Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team their first loss in 62 days in a 2-0 decision Friday in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Both teams are receiving votes in the current NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll.
During the span of 62 days, Indiana Wesleyan held a 15-match unbeaten streak and won the Crossroads League regular season championship. The loss also ends a six-match win streak that began on September 29 at Huntington.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats finish the regular season with a record of 12-2-3 and enter the Crossroads League Tournament as the No. 1-seed. IWU will play Goshen (Ind.) College, Huntington (Ind.) University, or University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in the First Round. That match will be on Saturday, October 27 at Wildcat Field.
Spring Arbor (13-3-2, 6-1-2 CL) secures at least a second or third place seed in the Crossroads League Tournament and it depends on the outcome of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University in their match at Grace (Ind.) College tomorrow. Spring Arbor earns second with a Mount Vernon Nazarene tie or loss and will be third if Mount Vernon Nazarene wins.
Tonight, Indiana Wesleyan was shutout for only the second time all season. The other scoreless match came in a 1-0 loss at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on August 25, the last match before the 15 game unbeaten streak.
The Cougars scored one goal in each half. Jeffery Addai scored the game-winner in the 33rd minute while Giovanni Sturla added an insurance goal in the 54th minute.
Spring Arbor held a 16-7 advantage in shots and put 10 on goal compared to three for Indiana Wesleyan. IWU freshman keeper Josh Goepper was credited with seven saves on the evening.
