MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis was too much for Marian (Ind.) University Saturday afternoon in a 7-2 victory at the Sutter Tennis Center.
The win moves Indiana Wesleyan back over .500 in their overall record (5-4) and their Mid-Central College Conference record (4-3).
Indiana Wesleyan quickly captured a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play.
Daniel Stoddard and Adam Wroughton pulled out an 8-6 win in No. 1-doubles, Kyle Johnson and Luke Montgomery took the No. 2-doubles point with an 8-2 victory and the No. 3-doubles team of Alex Hornett and Brooks Ayers won 8-4.
The Wildcats finalized the team win with four points in singles competition.
Johnson crushed his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1-singles and Ayers also brought in an easy point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4-singles. Stoddard came out victorious in No. 5-singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 point and Hornett won a tough No. 6-singles match by scores of 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
Wroughton dropped the No. 2-singles match by a 1-6, 0-6 score and Montgomery lost a 3-6, 7-5, 8-10 decision in No. 3-singles.
Indiana Wesleyan will complete the MCC regular season on Tuesday with a road match at Goshen (Ind.) College. Competition begins at 3 p.m.
