HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Box Score) -- The lower portion of the Indiana Wesleyan University men's tennis team secured an important victory for the Wildcats in a 5-4 win Saturday at Huntington (Ind.) University.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 2-1 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Defending MCC champion Huntington falls to 1-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats (3-2) trailed after doubles play as the No. 3-doubles team of Brooks Ayers and Alex Hornett won 8-3 for the lone IWU point.
Indiana Wesleyan needed to win four of the six singles matches to overcome Huntington (1-2) in the match. IWU did just that with wins in the final four singles competitions.
Luke Montgomery won No. 3-singles 7-5, 6-2 while Ayers secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory in No. 4-singles. Daniel Stoddard earned a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 5-singles and Drew Schoomaker was victorious 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 in No. 6 play.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13 at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
