MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team earned a pair of wins this weekend against Aquinas (Mich.) College and Cedarville (Ind.) University.
Indiana Wesleyan began the weekend with an easy win over Aquinas on Friday afternoon by a margin of 8-1.
The Wildcats opened up the day with a 3-0 sweep of doubles play as the No.1-doubles team of Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson defeated Lauren Ramey and Samantha Buehler (8-2), No.2-doubles team of Lisa Massey and Eva Delk defeated Jessica Lemire and Katie Siegel (8-3), and rounding out doubles play was No.3-doubles team of Caitlin McGuire and Aubrey Lohser defeated Cecelia Vaughn and Jen Staup (8-1).
The Wildcats continued their winning ways in singles play earning five of the possible six points. The wins were earned as No.2-singles Meyering defeated Buehler (6-1, 6-1), No.3-singles Delk defeated Lemire (6-1, 6-2), No.4-singles Wilson defeated Vaughn (6-0,6-0), No.5-singles Heiniger defeated Staup (6-0,6-0), and No.6-singles Futrell defeated Siegel (6-4,6-1).
During day two, Indiana Wesleyan found similar results as they faced off against Cedarville, capturing the win 9-0.
The Wildcats swept doubles play easily as the No.1-doubles team of Meyering and Wilson cruised to victory over Joy Kellogg and Brooke Johnson (8-1), No.2-doubles team of Massey and Delk battled to a win over Joy Dice and Melissa Stoltzfus (8-6), and the No.3-doubles team of McGuire and Lohser defeated Emma Rahn and Lyndsay Stine (8-2).
Indiana Wesleyan sealed off the big win by sweeping singles play in straight sets in all but one of the positions.
The sweep was earned as No.1-singles Massey defeated Kellogg (3-6,6-3, (10-5)), No.2-singles Meyering defeated Johnson (6-2,6-3), No.3-singles Delk defeated Dice (6-1, 6-3), No.4-singles Wilson defeated Stoltzfus (6-2,6-2), No.5-singles Heiniger defeated Rahn (6-1, 6-0), and No.6-singles Futrell rounded out the sweep as she defeated Stine (6-2,7-5).
The Wildcats will be back in action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday April 12 at as they face Valparaiso (Ind.) University in Valparaiso, Indiana.
