BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team lost their first match of the season in a close match at Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
The Wildcats started out slow, earning one point in doubles play when senior Caitlin McGuire and junior Aubrey Lohser defeated Ashlan Allison and Peterson 8-3.
The Tigers earned the remaining two doubles points as Erica Egelbrecht and Alicia Cullen defeated sophomores Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson 8-4 and Ariza Butoyi and Taylor Stephens defeated seniors Lisa Massey and Eva Delk 8-4.
After doubles play the Wildcat's showed promise as they tied the score up at 2-2 when freshmen Rachael Heiniger defeated Megan Ramsay 6-1, 6-2.
However, the Tigers quickly took back a two point lead as Olivet Nazarene's Butoyi defeated Massey (6-0, 6-0) and Engelbrecht defeated Meyering 6-2, 6-1. Olivet Nazarene sealed off the match as Allison defeated freshmen Kristen Futrell 6-1, 7-6, 7-2.
The Wildcats did not go down without a fight as they kept the match close with a win from Delk as she defeated Cullen 6-3, 6-2 as well as a hard fought win from Wilson as she defeated Stephens 5-7, 6-3, 10-12.
The Wildcats look to bounce back tomorrow as IWU battle University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 12 p.m. at the Challenge Fitness Center in Lockport Illinois.
