Trevecca Nazarene Sweeps IWU Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University held Indiana Wesleyan University softball to five hits in two games as the Trojans won the doubleheader 3-0 and 9-1 on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee.

The first game was closely contested. The Trojans opened the scoring in the third inning after a leadoff triple by Haylee Rogers. Rogers would score on a single by Kari Mason to provide TNU with all the offense they would need. Trevecca would later add two insurance runs in the sixth inning.

IWU sophomore catcher Katie Smith would notch the Wildcats' only hit of the opening game in the seventh inning on a single to left field. Indiana Wesleyan junior pitcher Abbie Forman pitched six innings for the Wildcats. She allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks, while striking out six Trojans.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Wildcats opened the first inning on a single by freshman Gabby McIntire. Following two walks and a fielder's choice, McIntire scored when junior Kelsey Decker was hit by a pitch.

Unfortunately for IWU, Trevecca immediately responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the day. The Trojans would notch three runs in the second inning, two runs in the fourth inning, and their final run in the fifth inning.

IWU senior pitcher Katie Hall allowed six runs on seven hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings of work. Gabby McIntire would come on in relief and pitch a solid three innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and three walks.

Indiana Wesleyan falls to 0-4 on the season, while Trevecca Nazarene improves to 6-0.

The Wildcats will return to action on March 5, as they compete in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida.
