MARION, Ind. -- Senior middle hitter Lauryn Barfell finished off 10 kills in just 14 attempts on Friday night as No. 19-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball won in three sets against visiting Goshen (Ind.) College in Luckey Arena.

Goshen (6-10, 2-8 MCC) provided Indiana Wesleyan more of a challenge than expected with close matches in the first two games, 25-17-25-22.

"We were playing with them," said Indiana Wesleyan head coach Candace Moats. "We talked about if we're going to go to the next level then we need to take this kind of team, do the discipline, and get everything put into order. Then we're able to go hard and play like we should against this kind of team."

After playing two close games Indiana Wesleyan (19-4, 8-2 MCC) would blow open game three and close out the match with a bang. Indiana Wesleyan closed Friday with a 25-9 victory to seal the 3-0 match win.

"We talked about this before the third game," added Moats. "We're going to be disciplined, we're going to put everything into place and we're going to work on our shots."

Barfell was a key cog in the middle for Indiana Wesleyan on Friday with 10 kills and a .643 hitting percentage.

"Lauryn is just a hard worker and I just love that she does work hard," said Moats. "I love how she just goes after everything and I think she just keeps getting better and is building more confidence. She's really passionate right now and she wants her senior year to be the best it can. Games like this, when we can just give her the ball, she finds ways to put it away."

Senior outside hitter Kate Denlinger led the team with 12 kills and senior middle hitter Peyton Thompson contributed 11. The Wildcats ended play with a .296 attacking percentage as a team.

Junior setter Yui Iwase assisted on 42 kills and she earned seven digs. Senior libero Kelsey Masuda added 23 digs and junior defensive specialist Jordan Sudzina had 16.

Up next for Indiana Wesleyan is Grace (Ind.) College, who beat Indiana Wesleyan 3-0 in Winona Lake early in the Mid-Central College Conference schedule. The teams are tied for second in the MCC with 8-2 records.

"We're anticipating an incredible fight. We think it's going to be a battle. I don't think it's going to be easy at all. But I really do believe we are going to have a different game than what we played before," stated Moats.

The big match will be at 7 p.m. this coming Wednesday, October 12 at Luckey Arena.
