Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Bethel (Ind.) College scored two goals in the final nine minutes of play to defeat the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team 3-1 Friday night at Wildcat Field.
Freshman forward Tracey Tiernon had tied the score 1-1 for Indiana Wesleyan in the 71st minute of play when senior midfielder Kelsey Johnson dumped a ball into her in the 18-yard box. But the 1-1 tie did not last long as Bethel reclaimed the lead 11 minutes later with the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
The Wildcats outshot the visiting Pilots 14-10 and had five shots on goal to just three for BC. As close as the numbers are, IWU controlled possession and were constantly in the Bethel defensive zone.
But Bethel took advantage of their three shots that were on target as each of them beat Indiana Wesleyan junior goalkeeper Jamie Speidel, including the final one which was scored as the horn went off to finalize the match.
Indiana Wesleyan drops to 6-8-1 this season and 1-4-1 in Mid-Central College Conference play while Bethel ups its record to 4-9-1 and 2-4-0 in MCC play.
IWU will take to the road for its next contest which will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 at Taylor (Ind.) University.
