SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team was back in action on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over host Cedarville (Ohio) University.
The Wildcats, who battled the Yellow Jackets indoors due to cold weather, opened play with a sweep of the doubles matches to gain a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
At No. 1-doubles, juniors Lisa Massey and Eva Delk beat Cedarville's Joy Kellogg and Brooke Johnson (8-3). At No. 2-doubles, freshmen Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson defeated Georgiann McClure and Carissa Parmalee (8-1). Rounding out the doubles play, the No. 3-doubles team of junior Caitlin McGuire and senior Courtney Kooyers cruised to victory over Melissa Stoltzfus and Rachel Arthur (8-1).
At the end of doubles play the Wildcats continued to rack up match wins with a 6-0 sweep through singles.
At No. 1-singles Massey fought hard to defeat Kellog (6-4, 6-2) and No. 2-singles Meyering quickly beat Johnson (6-0, 6-0). No. 3-singles Delk was victorious over McClure (6-1, 6-2), No. 4-singles Wilson beat Parmelee (6-0, 6-2) and No. 5-singles Kooyers conquered Stoltzfus (6-2, 6-2). Finishing up the singles play was No. 6-singles McGuire who overpowered Arthur (6-2, 6-1).
The Wildcats will brave the cold weather at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 when Indiana Wesleyan will face Ohio Dominican University. The Wildcats will play at home on March 31 at 12 p.m. against NCAA Division I opponent Valparaiso (Ind.) University.
