Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Freshman outside hitter Rae Brandes and junior outside hitter Kate Denlinger led Indiana Wesleyan to its second pool play win in two tries in a 3-1 victory over Colorado Christian University at the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Wildcats move to 2-0 in pool play with the 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 victory. IWU defeated Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University 3-0 in their first match of the tournament on Thursday.
Brandes drove a team-high 18 kills versus Colorado Christian and maintained a .441 hitting percentage while Denlinger added 16 kills with a .536 hitting percentage. Brandes also included 25 digs in her big match while Denlinger finished with five block assists.
Junior middle hitter Peyton Thompson contributed eight kills and a team-best seven block assists while sophomore setter Yui Iwase dished out 50 assists.
Indiana Wesleyan will continue with pool play on Friday with their final two matches. IWU battles Trinity International (Ill.) University at 10 a.m. and then Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University at 4 p.m. The top two teams from the pool will advance with the top two teams from the other five team pool to play cross over semifinals on Saturday with the championship match to follow later that day.
The Wildcats improve to 29-11 this season while the Cougars fall to 18-17.
