Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Eleven different Wildcats scored Wednesday night as No. 6-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball led wire-to-wire in a 76-37 victory over Goshen (Ind.) College in Luckey Arena.
Despite the 76 points barrage, no Wildcat finished the evening in double figure scoring. Senior forward Elaine Hessel and sophomore guard Taylor Goshert led the team with nine points apiece.
Indiana Wesleyan opened the night with nine of the first 11 points and ran their lead to double digits at 18-8 with less than nine minutes to play in the first frame. But Indiana Wesleyan struggled offensively in the half and led 27-16 at halftime, shooting 11-for-30 (36.7-percent) from the field.
The second half fared much better for the Wildcats as IWU scored 49 points on 50.0-percent (17 of 34) shooting. The Wildcats outscored the Maple Leafs 25-5 in the first eight minutes of the stanza to open a 52-21 advantage.
Indiana Wesleyan gained a 40 point lead (76-36) before winning 76-37 for their third straight win.
Senior forward LeAnn Douglas, junior guard Stephanie Burtch and sophomore forward Paige Smith all added eight points while junior guard Ashley Brooks, freshman center Leah Whittaker and junior center Krystal Stoneking all chipped in seven. The Indiana Wesleyan bench outscored Goshen 42-11 on the night.
The Wildcat defense remained in full force Wednesday, holding the Maple Leafs to just 31.6-percent (12 of 38) shooting and forcing 26 turnovers, including 18 in the first half. Maple Leaf junior guard Kari Heuseinkveld led all scorers and was the lone player in double figures with 10.
Indiana Wesleyan controlled the boards, outrebounding Goshen 39-29. Hessel and Smith each grabbed five rebounds while senior guard Kayla Thompson and freshman guard Abby Reinke pulled down four caroms.
The Wildcats improve to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-central College Conference play. The Maple Leafs are now 2-8 and 0-2 in the MCC.
Indiana Wesleyan remains home for their next game which is versus No. 16-ranked Bethel (Ind.) College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 in Luckey Arena.
