MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team qualified for the NAIA National Championships with an 8-1 win over Marian (Ind.) University in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament championship.
Indiana Wesleyan will represent the MCC with the conference's automatic bid at the NAIA National Championship on May 17-21 in Mobile, Alabama.
The Wildcats started out strong as they swept the doubles play.
Points were earned as the No.1-doubles team of Andrea Meyering and Lauren Wilson cruised to a win over Dana Reynolds and Lauren Paras (8-2), the No.2-doubles team of Lisa Massey and Eva Delk defeated Kemi Adeyemi and Brittney Horlacher (8-3) and the No.3-doubles team of Caitlin McGuire and Aubrey Lohser battled to victory over Aly O'conner and Tiffany Schendel (9-8(7-4)).
The Wildcats did not let up as they entered into singles play winning five of six possible points in straight sets.
Indiana Wesleyan wins came at No.1-singles as Massey battled to a win over Reynolds (7-6(7-5), 6-4), No.2-singles Meyering defeated Paras (6-3,6-2), No.3-singles Delk cruised to a victory over Horlacher (6-0,6-1), No.5-singles Kristen Futrell fought for a win over Maria Berry (7-5, 6-0) and No.6-singles Rachael Heineger defeated O'conner (6-2, 6-1).
Marian pulled out one point as No.4 player Adeymi defeated Wilson in a close battle (3-6, 6-0, 10-7).
With this win the Wildcats completed their fall season with an undefeated 13-0 record. Indiana Wesleyan clinched both the regular season and MCC Tournament championships.
