MARION, Ind. -- The top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University women's tennis team advanced to the championship match of the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament and moved one step closer to a national tournament berth with an 8-1 over No. 4-seed Grace (Ind.) College.
The Wildcats started out strong with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play.
Points were earned as the No.1-doubles team Lauren Wilson and Andrea Meyering defeated Jenessa Jergensen and Andrea Redhair (8-4), No.2-doubles Lisa Massey and Eva Delk battled to a win over Alisha Anthony and Jessica Stolle (9-8) and No.3-doubles Caitlin McGuire and Aubrey Lohser cruised to victory over Kelli Hamstra and Meghan Redhair (8-1).
After doubles play the Wildcats cruised to victory in five of six singles matches, four of which were completed in straight sets.
The five points were earned as Meyering def. Jergensen (6-2,6-1) in No. 2-singles, Delk def. Anthony (6-3,6-1) in No. 3-singles, Wilson def. Redhair (6-1,6-0) in No. 4-singles, Kristen Futrell def. M. Redhair (6-3,6-2) in No. 5-singles and Rachael Heiniger fought hard to pull out a third set tiebreaker over Hamstra (6-2,4-6,10-2) in No. 6-singles.
The Wildcats only loss came as Massey fought hard but fell just short to Stolle (6-1,2-6,10-8) in No. 1-singles.
With the win the Wildcats advance to the finals of the MCC Tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 9 at the Sutter Tennis Center against No. 3-seed Marian (Ind.) University.
